the fact that community colleges are seen as less valid and for “stupid” people is a result of classism and in this essay I will-
ppl in the tags saying that it’s “genuinely a lesser tier of education because people go there for trades and nursing and thats about it” are just proving that its classism. bc a) no thats absolutely not correct. a good chunk of people that go to community colleges do so to knock out their gen eds at a lower price than they’d be if they went to a four year, then transfer to a four year. and more importantly b) trade professions are not lesser than other professions that take higher degrees. people who go into things that take associates degrees are not “stupid”.
if you think ppl who are too poor to attend a four year university for all four years, or that ppl who are too poor to/don’t want to get their bachelor’s/master’s/doctorate are “stupid” then i have news for you:
thats classism, babe
I learned way more at community college than uni. I’m a huge advocate for community colleges.
Seriously. As someone who went to a respected private college and a community college, I enjoyed my time at CC so much more. I felt taken care of, I actually felt motivated to do well in class (which yes is internal, but I’ve known since middle school that my commitment is also directly related to how committed I feel the instructor is to my success), the classes I was in weren’t massive, I had a professor spam my inbox because I missed a class for being sick and he was worried why I’d missed a class (and he’d stop and ask me about my progress every time he saw me on campus after i finished his class).
Also, if you’re looking down on trades….who do you think built your house/apartment building (I said built, not designed so don’t talk to me about architects)? Plumbing is a trade, automechanics go to a trade school, welders go to trade schools, road workers go to trade schools….like the people who make modern life actually fucking run for the rest of us are the ones ya’ll are trying to shit on

Permission to get deep for a second?
The reason lifting weights helps treat depression is because you don’t just work out your muscles. You also exercise the ability to dispense motivation. Build up your power to motivate yourself, you’ll find yourself doing little things that need to be done. It’s not perfect, and it can be a really slow start, but it really does help.
It’s a lot easier to lift a dumbbell a few times than it is to clean your room, but if you push yourself to lift it you will find it easier to push yourself to organize your stuff or do the dishes.
Also you can punch harder.

being in love with the process and not the results is one of the healthiest things in the world
in this same vein: being proud of yourself for the work and not the product brings so much more happiness

I realize the filter on my picture makes my eye brows way lighter than they really are but I truly don’t care.
Don’t. Care.
